Funding

A number of private and public funding programs support bird conservation initiatives across North America and globally. In Canada, the Government of Canada provides funding for the recovery and prevention of species at risk through several programs:

• The Habitat Stewardship Program (HSP)
• The Aboriginal Fund for Species at Risk (AFSAR)
• The Interdepartmental Recovery Fund
• Summary information on above funding programs

Other environmental federal funding programs exist, for instance:

• The Ecological Gifts Program
• The EcoAction Community Funding Program
• The Environmental Damages Fund

Outside federal sources of funding, other bird conservation funding programs include, but are not limited to:

• The North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA)
• The Conservation Grant Program through the sale of Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp primarily to validate Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permits
